The hobbygame.dev domain

I’ve publicly shared hobbygamedev via Free DNS, a dynamic DNS sharing project where people can setup subdomains to point to their own internet‐connected systems in real time. This will be long‐term — hobbygame.dev is already registered until 2035.

So head over there if you want your own free devlog/game domain like this one:

Free DNS provides shared DNS hosting
.hobbygame.dev

but… HTTPS will be required and FreeDNS’s url forwarding won’t work

Chrome has decided that all domains ending in .dev must use HTTPS rather than HTTP.

Other browsers, such as Firefox, use Chrome’s list and are also forcing use of HTTPS, so your website will have to support HTTPS in order to use the domain. Let’s Encrypt can provide free certificates for your subdomain.

The “Web Forward” feature provided by FreeDNS relies on HTTP, so I don’t recommend using it for any hobbyGame.dev subdomains. The url forwarding still seems to work on my mobile phone, but I’ve never seen it work on a desktop browser.

If you’d rather not have this restriction, FreeDNS has 22000 other domains available which aren’t .dev
